New World has been the new major MMO success on Steam

New World is an Open World MMO that pits players against the haunted wilderness of Aeternum, a mysterious island during the twilight of the Age of Exploration. Success in New World ultimately depends on a player’s ability to conquer not only rival players, but Aeternum itself as it unleashes undead legions, hell-bent on purging them from its shores.

New World also implements an action-combat system offering melee weapons, ranged artillery, and supernatural powers. Players also have control over five core attributes: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, and Focus. When Amazon first announced New World, it initially planned to release the MMO in May 2020. Earlier this year, the company delayed the game to August 25th due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a kind of apology for the latest delay, people who signed up for New World's open beta, pre-ordered the game or took part in its alpha test will be able to play the RPG in its current state for "a limited period" starting on August 25th.  

New World, a fantasy MMO that revolves around colonizing a new continent, has seen its public launch pushed back from August 25 to "Spring 2021." The news came in a Friday update at the game's blog from studio director Richard Lawrence, who cited the current game's lack of "middle and endgame experiences" as a reason for the multi-month delay.

But Amazon Games is now 0-for-2 with game launches this year, as its May launch of the action-MOBA Crucible was summarily delisted from Steam less than two months after its public bow. That game continues to operate in a closed-beta, invite-only state, and it received a hearty update for its small population last week, complete with its first voice-chat feature—though the developers still haven't announced plans to introduce text chat, a feature that is arguably better suited for the random online matchmaking inherent in MOBA games.
